Abstract

This study analyzes the transformation of the social network Instagram since its creation in 2010 to the present day, focusing on the technological, cultural, and social changes that have shaped the platform. Initially conceived as a simple photo-sharing application, Instagram has evolved into a multifaceted space for visual communication, marketing, entertainment, and activism, integrating tools such as stories, reels, hashtags, and online commerce features. The research addresses the historical evolution of social media, from the first experiments in digital communication, such as Arpanet, to the constant updates provided by smartphones, and discusses the psychological and social impact of intensive use of social media, including anxiety, digital addiction, and cyberbullying. The study also highlights the role of young people in the rapid adoption and transformation of social media, as well as emerging ethical and social challenges such as privacy, algorithmic manipulation, and the spread of false information. It concludes that Instagram reflects and influences contemporary digital society, requiring conscious and balanced use to maximize benefits and minimize negative impacts.
