Abstract

This work is based on a meta-analytical investigation of some relevant publications to which the author had access, referring to the general history of Angola and, in particular, the colonial aspirations that sought to establish a country similar to those on the American continent, where power was taken by different European diasporas to the detriment of the right to liberation of the original populations, and the armed conflict that opposed the government armed forces and the political and military opposition in the 27 years following the establishment of our country as a sovereign state. The particular aspects of this conflict are presented, including the unprecedented devastation in human, economic, and social terms, the spread of the conflict with increasing intensity in many regions of the country, the initiatives and multiple diplomatic meetings held between the warring forces and between them and the external promoters of national belligerence, the end of international Cold War tensions and the easing of regional tensions in Southern Africa, and finally, the National Reconstruction that followed the definitive achievement of peace.
